What are ancillary rights?
Like copyright, ancillary rights are intellectual property rights. The owners of these rights decide on their use. As a rule, rightholders desire third party use of their rights. And if this is the case, rightholders are entitled to appropriate remuneration. Unlike copyright, which safeguards the creativity of the copyright holder, ancillary rights protect intermediaries of the works – such as broadcasting companies and publishers – and the creatives who work for them, as well as corporate services used to create new works from various individual ones. At the same time, ancillary rights protect the total company effort involved when a publisher produces digital publishing output, or a TV or radio station produces programmes, running 24 hours, 365 days a year.
What is the legal basis for Corint Media’s activities?
Corint Media’s activities are based on the German Collecting Societies Act and the Copyright Act.

Copyright and ancillary rights protect the investments of creatives and the creative industry and ensure that there is an appropriate financial distribution of income generated by third-party use of television and radio programmes and digital publishing products.
How does Corint Media handle the revenue generated?
As a Collective Management Organisation (CMO), Corint Media is obliged to pass on the rev­enues gen­er­ated by the ad­min­is­tra­tion of an­cil­lary rights and copy­rights to their righthold­ers after the de­duc­tion of ad­min­is­tra­tive costs.

Corint Media does not make a profit.
Can Corint Media enter into licence agreements at home and abroad?
Yes, as a Ger­man CMO, Corint Media can also op­er­ate abroad and sign li­cenc­ing agree­ments there. This was cer­ti­fied by the Eu­ro­pean Com­mis­sion in 2012.
